Session Title AT - Stories from the Juncture: Intersections and Crossings
Title Designing and Implementing a Two Stage Signalized Pedestrian Crossing on a High Volume Arterial
Abstract

This presentation describes the implementation of a two‑stage signalized pedestrian crossing on a busy four‑lane arterial providing a critical connection to a high school in Kingston, Ontario. The project responds to high pedestrian demand and challenging crossing conditions, including close spacing to a nearby signalized intersection, horizontal curvature, and high operating speeds. The crossing uses a median refuge and two‑stage signal operation to minimize delay for both pedestrians and motorists.
