Title Kelowna - Clement Crosstown Connector
Abstract

The City of Kelowna’s Clement Cross Town Connector (Segment 1) includes over 2km of new arterial roadway and the parallel Okanagan Rail Trail AT corridor construction with sperate cycle and pedestrian pathways all sandwiched between the slopes of Dilworth Mountain (north of the roadway) and the environmentally sensitive Mill Creek (south of the roadway), adding needed roadway capacity through the City’s congested Midtown commercial/light industrial district, and connecting to major Highway’s 33 and 97, while also enhancing the communities beloved existing rail trail.

In addition to the environmental and grading challenges the design includes two multi lane roundabouts, seven bridge structures, a dozen retaining walls, and major facility accesses for a BC transit bus yard and the City’s public works yard. The design also navigates through an existing braided network of telecommunication lines, major overhead transmission power lines, twin high pressure gas lines, water transmission main, and sanitary sewers along majority of the corridor. In addition to these major constraints, the design also includes protecting for a future dedicated transit corridor between the roadway design and the AT rail trail design.

This presentation will be co-presented by the City and consultant design team lead providing an overview of the preliminary design (completed in February 2026) for this $210 million dollar project to showcase how the roadway, cycle path, pedestrian path, future transit corridor and major utilities have been eloquently designed in an extremely congested corridor located between a mountain and major creek.
