Title Modeling of complex interactions between vehicles and passengers
Abstract

Background Information

Parking zones are crucial in urban mobility, where the interplay between vehicles and pedestrians directly affects traffic flow and safety. Traditional simulation tools often lack the ability to accurately represent these complex interactions, leading to gaps in understanding user behavior and facility performance.

Key Issues

The main challenges include realistic modeling of vehicle stoppage times, passenger movements, and the coordination of vehicular and pedestrian queues. These factors collectively influence circulation efficiency and safety in parking areas but are often oversimplified in existing microsimulation tools. Objectives This project aims to develop an advanced microsimulation module that accurately replicate vehicle-passenger interactions within parking zones. By integrating pedestrian modeling and vehicle dynamics, the goal is to reflect real-world user behavior and assess all the impacts on traffic.

Methodology

The approach involves using the VISSIM platform to team up pedestrian and vehicle simulations. Real-world data is used to calibrate the model, ensuring that stops lengths, passenger activities, and queue management are realistically represented. Scenario analysis is conducted to test different parking layouts and management strategies.

Conclusion

The developed module improves parking area simulations by capturing the interactions between vehicles and passengers. It enables a better evaluation and optimization of parking facility designs, leading to improved traffic and enhanced safety. The results provide practical insights for urban planners and facility operators seeking to address mobility challenges.
