Session Title DA - Digital Twinning for Transportation Assets
Title Digital twin applied to urban mobility
Abstract

Advantages of a digital twin for urban mobility:

The digital twin offers an innovative approach to model and plan mobility in a large city. It allows for real-time supervision of transport services, which is crucial for quickly responding to crises or degraded situations. Through in-depth mobility analysis, cities can anticipate the future and better exploit their infrastructure. The ability to simulate different road closure scenarios helps in effectively planning public works, thus reducing traffic disruptions.

Objectives of a big city from a mobility standpoint :

1. Crisis Response: Ensure real-time supervision of transportation services to react promptly in transportation crises.
2. Optimize Operations: Conduct mobility analyses to enhance service offerings and efficiency.
3. Mid-term Planning: Develop comprehensive plans for future mobility needs.

Our insights on digital twin through the case study of Lille (French city):

Egis will present the case-study of Lille, a French city who have implemented a digital twin prototype to analyze and supervise their transportation services. Digital twins would provide operators multiple benefits to anticipate new transportation services integration based on data analyze:

- Local transportation data analysis: Simulate and map new transportation routes within the existing network.
- Optimal route planning: Identify the best routes by integrating existing and new construction routes.
- Support for construction work: Suggest route closures to facilitate public works.
- Collaborative problem-solving: Work with decision-making tools in a collaborative environment to evaluate missing points and enhance traffic flow.
- Scenario testing: Develop and test transportation scenarios before integration into the current network.

Challenges and Insights in Urban Mobility Planning:
- Data collection: Improve compliance and data administration to enhance digital asset exploration and exploitation.
- Real-time Data integration: Incorporate real-time local transportation data to adapt to recurrent traffic disruptions.
- Evaluation protocols: Develop test protocols to assess the relevance and reliability of data, ensuring greater granularity and dynamic simulation exports.

Impact and Benefits from Egis:

Egis' approach combines digital expertise with best practices, providing a unique method to leverage digital twins effectively. By mixing domains and methods, Egis offers a comprehensive and integrated view. With tools like Connectwin, Egis provides advanced mobility analysis capabilities, enabling informed decision-making. The extensibility of the digital twin prototype allows for adding constraints and parameters, enriching analysis and planning. Moreover, Egis facilitates the simplification and popularization of digital twin usage, making this technology accessible to a broader internal audience.
