Title Arterial Corridor Evaluation Incorporating Both Mobility and Safety Performance
Abstract

Arterial corridor monitoring in terms of safety and mobility is an important aspect of Transportation System Management and Operation (TSMO) for public agencies. Most of the current methodologies were treating safety and mobility performance separately. This paper demonstrated an innovative data-driven methodology trying to combine them together to provide a different angle for the evaluation.

For mobility performance, the evaluation will be based on the corridors travel time performances. The corridors would be ranked based on the composite mobility index to reflect the corridors’ overall mobility performance. In addition, corridors safety performance is also incorporated into the study to evaluate their high-level safety status, which would involve corridors’ crash rate and travel demand (e.g., AADT) data to produce their safety performance index.

In cooperating study of corridors mobility and safety performance, this paper is hoping to provide an innovative data-driven approach in helping to evaluate the mobility and safety performance of corridors together for public agencies hopefully in helping to troubleshoot arterial corridors that need the allocation of additional engineering resources.
