Session Title GD - Confined Corridors and Intersections
Title County Road 3 (Prince Street) / County Road 34 (King Street) intersection (Lansdowne) Operations Review
Abstract

The operational review of the County Road 3 (Prince Street) / County Road 34 (King Street) intersection in Lansdowne, Ontario, was conducted based on the non-standard geometry of the intersection.  The intersection is physically constrained with buildings and a retaining wall, it has skewed approaches and is located at the top of an 8% slope, and the east leg operates one-way, away from the intersection.  The skewed geometry and unconventional traffic control configuration were assessed through site observations, focusing on vehicle encroachment, observed vehicle conflicts,  on-street parking conflicts, exposed roadside hazards, and . non-compliant movements.

To address these concerns, a series of geometric, operational, and traffic-calming improvements are recommended, including corner modifications to accommodate large vehicle movements, the introduction of a painted chicane and curb bump-outs, protection of exposed utility poles, and revised parking arrangements. These measures are intended to clarify driver expectations and enhance overall intersection performance, while allowing for future reassessment and enhancements.
