| Abstract | Digital twin technology allows for the creation of web-based representations of complex real world transportation assets and projects. These digital twins allow for streaming of reality data from 3D photorealistic tiles, direct connections to GIS web services along with connectors that allow for the seamless integration of complex model data that eliminate proprietary vendor boundaries. By combining 3D models with IoT sensor data, digital twins turn transportation infrastructure into an always-current reflection of reality, helping teams make faster, smarter decisions and keep complex systems running safely and efficiently. This session will demonstrate examples of digital twins in transportation infrastructure (iTwins) - how they integrate numerous complex data sources as well as how IoT sensor data makes them ‘evergreen’ by providing continuous updates in real time. In addition, these same iTwins provide crucial safety benefits by allowing for remote inspections - eliminating risks created by traditional onsite methods. Operators can get a clear view of how those assets are performing right now and spot potential issues before anyone sets foot on-site. This session will also touch on examples of navigating transportation infrastructure geospatially from a ‘Google Earth’ like interface allowing one to see the entire portfolio of their transportation assets to make more informed holistic decisions. |
