Session Title CC - Climate Vulnerability and Resilience: Getting Out in Front
Title ClimateData.ca: Datasets, tools, and guidance for integrating climate resilience into the transportation sector
Abstract

As Canada’s climate continues to change, the transportation sector faces increasing challenges that can significantly affect safety, reliability, and long-term infrastructure planning. Rising temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events are expected to place new pressures on transportation networks across the country. Understanding these projected changes is critical for making informed decisions that strengthen resilience and reduce risks.

This presentation will provide an overview of future climate projections relevant to transportation. Attendees will learn about the types of climate indicators most relevant to transportation, including heavy precipitation, freeze-thaw cycles, and extreme heat, and how these factors may change in the coming decades.

A central component of the session will be an introduction to ClimateData.ca, an online platform designed to make climate information more accessible and usable. The website provides interactive maps, downloadable datasets, visualization tools, and guidance documents that can support adaptation across sectors. For transportation professionals, ClimateData.ca offers valuable resources to inform climate risk assessments and compare future scenarios.

By the end of the session, participants will gain a better understanding of how climate projections can be practically applied to transportation challenges and how ClimateData.ca can help to guide decision-making processes.
