Session Title DA - Transportation Data and Analytics
Title Smarter ITS Applications using existing data sources
Abstract

Smart city solutions are often built separately, from the ground up to provide new features and functions.  These approaches often take longer to build and are costly – and tend to replicate some features or data that is available from other existing sources.  Using existing data rich Traffic Management Systems that agencies already have in place to provide data that can fuel special purpose or general purpose smart city applications reduces the time to build them and the cost and effort to bring solutions online.  This presentation will explore how this can be done using well-established data standards, including use cases that successfully adopted this approach.

The case studies explored will include:

  • A Large City in Canada - Sharing of Traffic Data for Third Party Applications and Regional Aggregation
  • A mid-sized Canadian city utilizing data to route emergency vehicles around rail crossings
  • Use for agency owned device diagnostics
  • Analysis of emergency vehicle preemption – impact and performance on the traffic system
Presentation Description (for App) Using existing data rich Traffic Management Systems to provide data to fuel special purpose or general purpose smart city applications reduces the time to build them and the cost and effort to bring solutions online. We will examine real life use cases that have been implemented using existing data sources.
