Title | Optimizing Highway Operations and Maintenance: Streamlining Work Order Mangement for Improved Efficiency |
Abstract | The implementation of a Work Order Management System for Brun-Way Highways Operations has significantly improved operational efficiency and effectiveness. By leveraging VUEWorks technology and integrating a Geographic Information System (GIS) map of our highway network, we have streamlined work order tracking, enhanced asset management, and optimized maintenance operations. The system enables us to digitally attach work orders to specific assets, allowing field staff to instantly access up-to-date information on inspections and repairs.
There have been numerous benefits from this system, with one of the key benefits being a significant reduction in inspection times, with tasks now being completed in half the time compared to previous methods. Other benefits have included eliminating duplication, minimizing errors, and increased overall accuracy in tracking the status and progress of work. Additionally, the ability to track and manage costs within the system has allowed for better budgeting and cost management of highway operations.
A more intangible benefit has been the boost in morale among our district staff using the system. This improvement can be attributed to several factors, such as the increased sense of ownership over their work, reduced duplication, the elimination of paper-based processes, and the opportunity to provide input into the system to better tailor it to their needs.
This presentation will highlight the steps involved in implementing VUEWorks, the challenges encountered during the process, and the benefits realized through the system. We will share insights on how this technology has enhanced our operations and provide valuable lessons for other transportation organizations considering similar upgrades to their asset management systems. |
