Session Title MM - Revamping TDM: Adapting to the New Normal
Title From Commutes to Coffee on the Couch: Rethinking Sustainable Mobility in the Era of Hybrid
Abstract or description

It's no secret that travel habits have changed due to the pandemic. Many traditional TDM initiatives, programs and services are predicated on a typical daily commute outside the home to work, school or other locations, which is no longer necessary for a large portion of the workforce. With a rise in hybrid work and learning arrangements, more residents are spending more time in their immediate neighbourhoods and reflecting on how it works.

This presentation will examine how TDM has evolved in a mid-sized Canadian city, using Hamilton, Ontario, as a case study. It will explore how the new normal has required staff to rethink existing programs, introduce new options, and retire others. Based on on-the-ground experience, the presentation will see what Hamilton's Sustainable Mobility team has done, drawing on stated and revealed data coupled with insights from working with stakeholders and travellers. The presentation will include case studies from the city's workplace TDM program, Smart Commute Hamilton, community-based initiatives and the shared mobility program.

Presentation Description (for Conference App) Many TDM initiatives are predicated on a daily commute outside the home, which is no longer necessary for many people. This presentation will examine how TDM has evolved in a mid-sized city, using Hamilton as a case study.
