Session Title EN - Connecting for the Future: Wildlife Crossing Design Solutions
Title The Future of Wildlife Crossing Structures
Abstract or description

I am a Partner at DIALOG and leader of their bridge and civil infrastructure team.  A structural engineer by training, over the past 20 years I have worked on a wide variety of transportation and infrastructure projects for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, Parks Canada, the City of Edmonton, and the City of Calgary.  Included in those projects are four of the current six wildlife overpass crossings in Banff National Park, and the current overpass under construction near Canmore.  I was on the Owner's Engineer team for the crossings built in 2008 at km 65 and 74, and led the Contractor's design team for the crossings built in 2010 at km 49 and 54 in the Park.  I am also the overall Project Director for the overpass being constructed on Highway 1 east of Canmore.  This wide range of project roles has allowed me to experience the planning and delivery of wildlife overpasses from a variety of viewpoints.  My interest in wildlife mitigation projects stems from a growing understanding and acknowledgement that human population growth and roadway/railway expansion has had a devastating impact on wildlife and migration corridors.  I feel that my past experience and overall skill set put me in a fairly unique position to help advocate for future wildlife mitigation projects, successfully lead these projects, and pass lessons learned to other clients and consultants.
