Session Title DA - Digital Twinning for Transportation Assets
Title The Canada Line Digital Twin; Condition Monitoring and Asset Management
Abstract or description

Condition monitoring and optimization in managing the assets especially in an aging infrastructure is a common challenge in all railway systems. The amount of scattered data and challenge with organizing this data, the amount of time spent on data processing, driving actions, and planning of activities are some of the main areas of waste in resources, cost, and efficiency in especially brownfield organizations. The Canada Line public transit railway, built and operated by AtkinsRealis under a P3 contract with Translink, is one of the examples where a Digital Twin application has been developed with the vision of properly classifying, sorting, and tracking of data, analyzing, and adding predictive models, semi and full automation of planning activities, optimizing the assets management and cost of ownership. The level of automation which can be achieved through the Digital Twin can potentially eliminate majority, if not all, of the data processing/analyzing and planning activities all the way to the execution level. With the capability of adding many different criteria for decision making, the concept of sustainable decision making can be integrated into this system. Some of the Digital Twin modules developed for the Canada Line currently include monitoring the critical assets such as the switches, daily trains status report, Assets lifecycle and cost of ownership management, Defects tracker including the early alerts and some intervention level activities by the machine.
