Session Title CC - Tools for Assessing Climate Resilience for Transportation Projects
Title ClimateData.ca: New datasets, tools, and guidance information for integrating climate resilience into transportation projects.
Abstract or description

The Canadian Centre for Climate Services (CCCS) at Environment and Climate Change Canada will present on innovative new datasets, tools, and guidance information for integrating climate resilience into transportation projects. The focus will be on ClimateData.ca, including the new Spatial Analogues Tool, new datasets including Humidex and Building Climate Zones, and the new audio learning pilot on ClimateData.ca aimed at enhancing accessibility of climate information for transportation professionals. Followed by a climate scientist’s perspective on the Coquihalla Highway case study, demonstrating the necessity of evolving risk assessment methodologies in response to climate threats. This presentation aims to demonstrate the pivotal role of CCCS in advancing climate resilience within the transportation sector, underscoring the criticality of data-driven strategies for the effective design, planning, and construction of resilient infrastructure. Furthermore, the talk will delve into how these tools and data can be practically applied in various stages of transportation project development, featuring case studies from the Map of Adaptation Actions that offer insights into recent practices for integrating climate considerations into decision-making processes.
