Session Title AT - Trails and Active Transportation Networks
Title The Durham Meadoway Visioning Study: Advancing a Transformative Active Transportation Corridor and Linear Park
Abstract or description

The Durham Meadoway is a planned active transportation corridor and linear park, connecting neighbourhoods in the Regional Municipality of Durham across over 30 kilometres from Pickering to Oshawa. The Visioning Study outlines the hidden potential for this transformative project, which can become both trail and destination for residents and visitors to Durham Region.

In addition to becoming a major active transportation corridor, the new multi-use path is intended to facilitate active and passive recreation through amenities such as gateways, public art, socializing nodes, community gardens, play areas, sports facilities and nature walks among others. The preferred alignment for the multi-use path leverages several sections of existing on and off-road multi-use paths, while providing additional connectivity to numerous components of the existing and planned active transportation network in the region.

The team from SvN and Durham Region will walk through the project highlighting the planning framework and conceptual design for the multi-use path and adjacent amenities. The presentation will review the alignment options for the trail that were considered in selecting the preferred route and two interim routes, identifying safety considerations in terms of crossing arterial roads and other infrastructure, existing land use constraints, and Hydro One operational and technical considerations for the transmission corridor lands.
