Session Title CC - Driving to Net Zero: What Are Organizations Doing to Achieve Their Goal?
Title Priority E-Mobility Actions Driving Municipalities to Net Zero
Abstract or description

Transportation is the dominant source of communities’ GHG emissions and thus an essential piece of the net zero puzzle.  Local and regional governments have a profound impact on transportation emissions through their ability to regulate land use and shape the transportation network. Additionally, local governments are increasingly adopting E-Mobility Strategies, committing to actions to drive adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and other forms of zero emission electrified transportation.  But what are the most powerful levers at local governments’ disposal to enable adoption of electric mobility?  And how can cities ensure these strategies best complement parallel efforts to improve the non-automotive transport network, urban design and reduce overall vehicle dependence?

Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors support Canadian municipalities and regional governments with strategic e-mobility projects and strategies.  We have developed local E-Mobility Strategies from coast to coast, including the Cities of New Westminster, Victoria, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Toronto, Fredericton, Halifax and Metro Vancouver. We understand which e-mobility actions are most impactful given municipal authority, budget constraints, and on-the-ground context.

Our presentation will summarize priority actions that cities can take. This shortlist has been developed through extensive modelling, research, and stakeholder engagement. Leading actions were selected based on their ability to address the most significant barriers to e-mobility and cover the following categories:

  • Passenger electric vehicles: enhancing equitable and reliable EV charging access
  • E-micromobility, including e-bikes: increasing safety and security
  • Shared fleets and transit: supporting effective planning and policies

Municipalities are unique, coming in all shapes and sizes with varying demographics and identities. Building on our projects as case studies, we will also identify how these actions can be tailored to fit the community context. Attendees will come away with actionable next steps and insights to enhance their efforts to reduce corporate and community transportation emissions.
