Session Title CC - Driving to Net Zero: What Are Organizations Doing to Achieve Their Goal?
Title Canada's Cement and Concrete Action Plan to Net-Zero
Abstract or description

The Cement Association of Canada (CAC) has collaborated with industry members and partners in the concrete sector to launch “Concrete Zero,” an Action Plan aimed at achieving carbon emissions reduction targets in the cement and concrete industry. Concrete is the second most consumed commodity in the world on a per capita basis after water and is found in virtually all transportation infrastructure projects.  This plan focuses on making cement net-zero by 2050 through various strategies such as transitioning to lower-carbon fuel sources, producing carbon-reduced cements and concretes, and adopting clean technologies. In this presentation, attendees will gain insights into the concrete industry’s comprehensive plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The presentation will highlight the collaborative efforts between the industry and the government, showcasing their pioneering industrial decarbonization agreement. Industry efforts around the 5’C’s: Clinker, Cement, Concrete, Construction, and Carbon Uptake will be described and supporting information and various tools that are available to assess the embodied carbon in concrete will be presented.
