Title | Centreline Culvert Replacements in the North - Challenges, Obstacles and Mitigation Measures |
Abstract | Have you ever started a project just to find the condition and hydraulic capacity of the culverts begins to unravel the scope of work beyond what you were expecting? Ever start the review for the replacement of a culvert and discover a highly sensitive/fish bearing watercourse, layer of bedrock or rockfill, adjacent entrances reducing your lane closure opportunities or all the above? McIntosh Perry looks forward to providing strategies and thought processes to mitigate the noted challenges.
Highways and Rural Road networks are often constructed through a diverse drainage network requiring Centerline Culverts being installed in a wide variety of shapes, material types, sizes, orientations, and depths. The diversity of these design elements on any project can present an array of design elements to consider. The associated scope of work includes large complex designs all the way to smaller initiatives having big impacts to the overall project.
Centerline culverts can be replaced through a wide range of alternatives including open cut replacement with and without protection systems, open cut replacement through temporary platform widening, open cut replacement through grade lowering, and trenchless installation through tunneling and/or lining. All alternatives present their own pros and cons that all must be considered when short listing replacement options.
We look forward to providing a wide array of knowledge associated to Centerline Culvert replacements specifically in Northern Ontario which often presents a variety of Challenges, Obstacles and Mitigation Measures outside of the southern reaches of the Province of Ontario. |
