Abstract Title Evaluation of the Predictive Validity of A Situational Judgement Test and the Non-Academic Performance of Family Medicine Residents in Canada.

Methods All 2023 FM residency applicants (n=1159) across 13 programs completed the FM-specific SJT. Supervisors assessed residents' performance on the four SJT attributes at mid- and endpoints of training. Additional selection data (e.g., file review, interview scores) and remediation data were also collected.Non-parametric correlations and independent t-tests were used to examine the relationship between SJT and interview scores, and the outcome variables.
Results Supervisors' assessment data and other selection assessment data was collected for 422 residents (mid-training) and for 380 residents (end-of-training). Initial analysis has revealed a statistically significant, positive relationship between residents' SJT scores, overall supervisor ratings and their empathy/compassion ratings. Residents who required remediation scored significantly lower on the SJT than those who did not. There was also positive correlation between interview scores and supervisors' overall ratings.
Discussion This study provides good initial evidence for the validity of a new FM-specific SJT in predicting FM Residents' in-training performance overall and in relation to their empathy and compassion, as well as the requirement for remediation. Findings also highlight the value of using a combination of selection methods, which has relevance across diverse international contexts.
