| Abstract Title | An Evaluation Strategy for the Implementation, Monitoring, and Continuous Quality Improvement of the College of Family Physicians of Canada's (Cfpc) Education Action Plan |
| Will the presenter be a: | Early Career Faculty - (Less than 7 years of practice) |
| Methods | To develop this strategy, we conducted key informant interviews with leaders of the CFPC's accreditation, certification, government relations, membership, and research portfolios, and the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada. Interviews were analyzed via a qualitative descriptive approach sensitized to the levels of influence described by the Ecological Systems Theory and the antecedents of intention described in the Theory of Planned Behaviour. |
| Results | Analysis resulted in a set of four grand evaluation questions, which centred resident preparedness, training-practice alignment, provider wellness and satisfaction, and the conditions that valorize the work of family physicians. These were mapped to a new evaluation framework that brought together our two theoretical orientations into a composite model. This model was then used to generate specific evaluation questions relevant to each step of the training-to-practice trajectory and to encourage reflection on the sources of data that will support answers. |
| Discussion | The resulting evaluation strategy situates the CFPC to determine the practice intentions promoted by the EAP; appraise and produce evidence concerning the relationship between the mix, number, and distribution of the family physician workforce, their practice behaviours, and healthcare system efficacy; and reflexively monitor the alignment between intended learning outcomes and the downstream practice behaviours of family physicians. |
