Our feelings about who we are have been shaped since the day we were born by those who cared for us and interacted with us. Depending on the kind of care we received, our Self developed in a secure, confident manner, or was damaged by inconsistent, absent or harsh caregiving. All of this formed patterns and networks within our nervous system long before we had the language to articulate our needs or feelings, and this process led to the way we see ourselves, present ourselves, and make decisions for ourselves throughout our lives.
In our efforts to help folks confront, come to terms with, and release, the pain that has been stored in the body during the addictive process, we need to help them understand how the journey from struggling to strength occurs and how they can get there - by first having a fearless meeting with their Self - all the good, ugly, hidden, uncelebrated parts of Self - letting the light into the dark spaces and providing a Safe Space for the New Self to begin the journey.
This session looks at this journey from Struggle to Strength as we examine where we came from in our developmental framework, the kinds of attachments we formed, the presence or lack of protective factors within our homes and communities, our developmental journey, the effects of all of this on our nervous system,--- and most important, how the Self developed from all of these elements and what has happened to this Self because of, and as a result of, this process.
The Struggle often begins outside our awareness. The Strength comes from having the right tools and right relationships to help us navigate this road as we become acquainted with the person who will be there with us -=Our Self!

Workshop Type

Prevention
Recovery
Treatment

Workshop Length

3 Hour

 "}
