Abstract Summary Microcredentials have emerged in response to the growing need for flexible, targeted training that can quickly address evolving workforce skill gaps, making them a natural fit for ACENET to extend its hands-on, skills-focused training. However, the microcredential ecosystem is still evolving and lacks clear standardization. In response, ACENET developed its own microcredential framework to equip learners with practical, job-relevant skills. This work was informed by an in-depth exploration of the landscape, including what microcredentials are, how they are structured, what frameworks already exist, and how they are valued by different stakeholders. ACENET's microcredentials are grounded in a competency-based approach, with a strong emphasis on demonstrating skills through authentic assessment and collaboration with industry. Participants engage in interactive training sessions and complete assessments that reflect real-world challenges, ensuring learning outcomes translate directly to workplace-relevant skills and competencies. This session will begin with an interactive activity to explore participants' understanding and assumptions about microcredentials. We will then provide an overview of ACENET's framework and development process, including program design, assessment strategies, industry engagement, and quality assurance. The session will also highlight lessons learned, including challenges related to scalability and learner engagement. Attendees will gain practical insights into designing and delivering microcredentials that are both rigorous and responsive to workforce needs.
