Issue/Objective We highlight the role of the largest profession in the healthcare sector, namely nursing, as the preparedness of healthcare personnel to respond to disasters and emergencies is considered one of the most important priorities for the healthcare sector's resilience in the face of disasters and climate change.
Methodology/Approach Reviewing global plans, policies, and strategies for nursing disaster preparedness and analyzing gaps and challenges in the role nurses play in disaster response at all levels in hospitals and the field. Policies of the International Council of Nurses and nursing officials in health ministries in some countries will be analyzed.
Results There are significant gaps in advanced nursing policies and procedures in all countries of the world. Proper nursing preparedness to confront disasters contributes globally to saving societies and reducing deaths and injuries. There are advanced tasks specific to nurses during disasters and emergencies, and practical policies in this regard that all countries of the world need in order to enhance the resilience of the health system during disasters.
Discussion/Conclusion With the increase in various disasters in the world, the health system is considered the main reference for saving people, saving lives and treating the injured. The nursing staff is the largest in the health system at all its levels. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen and raise the preparedness and efficiency of nurses in the world so that they can play an advanced role during disasters. This requires advanced policies and tasks that require qualified nurses all over the world, and this is what the working paper highlights.
